Valentine's Day Party

We had such a fun time during our Valentine's Day party! We all had been anticipating the party ALL day and were so excited when it finally was time! First we passed out our valentine's cards to our friends then it was time to eat!!!

We had cake, cupcakes, cookies, chips, candy, and strawberries!! Delicious!

We spent a lot of time getting ready for our Valentine's Day party and we're so glad that so many parents were able to join us. Thanks to all the parents who sent in items for the party, as well as valentine's cards, and to those who came.
This week we also continued learning about our solar system. We also learned a Planet Poem song that we love to sing in the mornings. The song helps us remember the planets in order! We also learned more about the sun being a star and how the moon changes form throughout the months. We've also started learning about numbers; counting by 5's, 10's, and 2's, as well as learning even and odd numbers.
We will be wrapping up our space unit this week and we'll be introduced to word families!
Can't wait to fly to space this week!

Japanese Tea Ceremony

A BIG thanks to all who helped with our phone book recycling contest by bringing in your old phone books. As a class we were able to collect a total of 215 phone books!!! As you can see the kids were REALLY excited! Even if we don't win, we will be having a pizza party to celebrate our teamwork.
This Friday we also had our Japanese Tea Ceremony. We've spent the past three weeks in Japan learning all about the culture and now we're on our way home! We celebrated by having our very own Tea Ceremony.
We learned that it is tradition in Japan to eat on pillows on the floor next to very low tables. Since we didn't have low tables or enough pillows to share, we used our great imaginations.
And since we all don't agree on liking sushi and hot tea, we compromised with Swedish Fish wrapped in Fruit Roll Ups and hot chocolate or apple juice.
We did learn to use our very own chopsticks though!! That was a lot of fun!
We had a great time in Japan and we learned a lot. Be sure to ask your child how to say the numbers 1-5 in Japanese...they know!!
We're now learning all about Space and our Solar System. We will be continuing this for the next week and a half ending with our 'trip to space' in two weeks!! :)
And as always if you would like to be a part of any of our Fun Fridays please come join us!! We will be having a Valentine's Day party next Friday from 10:15-11:00 and would LOVE to have you there! Just let us know if you will be joining us!!

100th Day of School

Check out our really cool 100 days of school art projects! We glued candy, pennies, stickers, used stamps and even sewed on buttons! We're a very creative class.
We had all kinds of 100 days of school projects. Above: We counted by 5's to 100 on our 100 number graph! Below: Here some of us are making our 100 days headbands! We counted by 10's and colored our school buses, then glued them on in order to make our headbands. We can all count to 100 and can all count by 1's, 5's, and 10's!!!!!!

Here we are with our 100 days of school headbands on!! Don't we look good? :)

We've learned so much the first 100 days of school and still have so much more to learn! This week we continued our Japan unit. We learned about carp fish, boys day, the Japanese flag, and volcanoes. We even got to erupt our very own volcano! Next week we're going to be getting ready to head home from Japan and we'll also start learning about space! We might even take a trip to the planets!
Thanks for the continued support and encouragement you give each of your children by reading to them! They're all learning so much!!

Art of the Sky

Above is our completed Art of the Sky Project!! Kate Sullivan Crocodile's Rock!!
This is our class waiting with our reading buddies (Mrs. Magee's 5th grade class) to be directed in where we were going to be in the big crocodile art.
Here we go... on our way to be placed inside the crocodile. We were part of the left front leg. Be sure to ask your child where they are. They know!!

Looking up. Anxiously awaiting for the countdown to take our picture. Just waiting on everyone else to get seated. We had so much fun coming together to create a large crocodile... our Kate Sullivan Crocodile! It was a once and a lifetime experience and we're all so glad we got to participate. Thanks for all who helped out and thank you to the parents for remembering to send your child to school with a gray shirt!!!
